Workshops
Consider leading an Anchorage Folk Festival Workshop!
Workshops are important pillar of the Anchorage Folk Festival. They are unique opportunities to refine instrument skills, learn a new craft, connect with community, and become inspired! When you lead a workshop, you become a key part of what makes the Anchorage Folk Festival the amazing and joyous festival that so many people look forward to every year.
Workshops presenters are volunteer members of our community who have a skill to share. Anyone can propose a workshop, and they’re a great opportunity to share your expertise! They’re for all ages and range from beginning ukelele to singing joyful songs with toddlers, learning how to play a hurdygurdy, and dance instruction. Dance and youth workshops have been the most popular in the past, but most workshops are well attended!
Workshops are 75 minutes long and are held between 10am and 5pm on either Saturday or Sunday of the festival. We work hard to schedule workshops around your main-stage performance so they do not conflict with each other.
There is no payment for instructing a workshop; however, many workshop presenters find that the increased exposure is very helpful for getting students, marketing their work, etc. Workshops are advertised in our program and website and by our emcees on the main stage; still, workshop attendance is greatly boosted if you help to get the word out as well.
We are very grateful to anyone willing to submit a workshop proposal. However, a proposal submission does not guarantee that your workshop will be selected. We carefully select a cadre of workshops that complement each other but do not compete. Finally, note that guest artists teach two-four workshops on Sunday afternoons.
